In Nikko: bikes, tea and culture
Rated 5 out of 5 by 3 GetYourGuide reviewers
Three hours on electric-assist bikes through Oku-Nikko with a local guide, for four riders at most: Kegon Falls, the shore of Lake Chuzenji and the open marsh of Senjogahara. The e-bikes flatten the hills, so it suits mixed abilities.
Starts inLake Chuzenji
The ride starts by Kegon Falls, where the water drops 97 metres out of Lake Chuzenji, and follows the lake shore before climbing on to Senjogahara, the high marsh under Mount Nantai, on quiet roads and forest paths.
The group is small, four at most, and the guide, Taka in the reviews, tells the stories of the area as you go and brings a drink and a snack. Reviewers with very different levels of fitness say the pace worked for all of them.
You need to be able to ride a bike and be at least 155 cm tall and 15 years old. Wear cycling clothes: no skirts or wide trousers. Bring water and a passport or ID card.
Through the year
Best from late spring to autumn: fresh green in May and June, colour on the lake in mid to late October. It is a mountain area at about 1,300 metres, so the weather can turn: bring a layer.
