Nikko guided bus tour from Shinjuku, with the Toshogu ticket

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 79 GetYourGuide reviewers

The coach day for travellers staying in Shinjuku who want the Toshogu ticket included and a licensed English-speaking guide. It is a little dearer than the Ginza coach, and in return there are no options to get wrong.

Starts inShinjuku, Tokyo

You meet the guide at the LOVE sculpture outside the Shinjuku i-Land building in Nishi-Shinjuku, and the coach is in Nikko about two and a half hours later.

Lunch comes first: on the option with lunch it is a set of chestnut okowa rice and small dishes, and the operator can arrange vegetarian, vegan or wheat-free and soy-free meals if you ask when you book. Then about an hour and a half at Toshogu with the guide, ticket included, which is enough for the main gates, the carvings and the sleeping cat.

The coach climbs to Kegon Falls for about 30 minutes, and on to Lake Chuzenji for another 30, before the three-hour drive back. It arrives in Shinjuku between 6.30pm and 7pm.

Through the year

Autumn traffic on the Irohazaka can stretch the day. In winter the falls and the lake are often in snow; the coach runs all year.

Why this one

The ticket is in every booking and the guide is licensed, which is not true of every coach day. If you are staying in Ginza or Tokyo Station, the Ginza coach is cheaper and gives Toshogu more time.
