Shinkyo Bridge, Nikko townOn our lists
Hoshinoyado is a traditional ryokan on the slope above the Shinkyo Bridge, about three minutes on foot from the bridge and the start of the shrine precinct. The building dates from the 1960s and feels it, but this is the kind of place first-time ryokan guests hope for: tatami, dinner served with care and a hot-spring bath before bed.
The shared baths open from 3.30pm to midnight, and a private bath can be reserved by contacting the inn before you arrive. Guests on Expedia praise the food and the staff.
The baths
Shared hot-spring baths, 3.30pm to midnight, and a private bath to reserve in advance.
Getting around
Above the Shinkyo Bridge on the shrine side of town.
