Tamozawa, Nikko townOn our lists
Fufu Nikko is the Nikko house of the Fufu brand of small luxury ryokan, in the Tamozawa area west of the shrines, among tall trees by the Daiya river. All 24 rooms are suites, and every one has its own hot-spring bath, filled from the ryokan’s own source; some have their bath outdoors.
Stays are sold with dinner and breakfast, and the price is the highest in Nikko town. In return you get the thing many people travel to Japan for: an evening that does not involve leaving the room except for dinner, with a hot tub of spring water a few steps from the bed.
The baths
Every suite has a private hot-spring bath from the ryokan’s own source; some suites have it outdoors.
Getting around
In Tamozawa, west of the shrines near the Tamozawa Imperial Villa; a taxi ride from the stations.
