JR Nikko Station, Nikko townOn our lists
The Station Hotel Classic stands directly in front of JR Nikko Station, with Tobu-Nikko Station a few minutes along the road, so every bus to the shrines, Lake Chuzenji and Yumoto leaves from the door. It has its own natural hot spring, the Eki Spa, with an open-air bath, open from 6am to midnight.
Rooms come in five types, Western twins and doubles, modern Japanese doubles and triples and a suite. There is a buffet restaurant, Japanese restaurant Sakura and a bar; breakfast is a paid buffet unless your rate includes it. Guests on Expedia say the building feels dated but the location and the onsen make up for it.
The baths
The Eki Spa: the hotel’s own natural hot spring, with an open-air bath, open 6am to midnight.
Getting around
Directly in front of JR Nikko Station; buses to the shrines and the lakes leave from the station forecourt.
